This was my first time taking my parents on a cruise, a "filial daughter's trip" 😂. The 6-day, 5-night cruise departed from Hong Kong, with stops in Okinawa and Ishigaki Island . We had two days to disembark and explore Japan; the rest of the time we stayed on the ship , eating, playing, and relaxing non-stop .

The rest of the time is spent at sea, where you can slowly explore the ship's activities, restaurants, and shows. The biggest advantage for seniors is that they don't have to change hotels, carry luggage, or worry about transportation , but they can still enjoy a "light trip" to Japan.

2) First day on board: Must-do checklist (Reservations are most important)

It will be very busy once you board the ship, because there are some things that are better done as early as possible :

• Download/open the cruise company's app now : View event schedules, book performances, and reserve restaurant time slots.
• First, grab the hottest shows : Some of these performances are said to be "must-sees" by everyone.
• Restaurant reservations : If you want to dine at the main restaurant or a paid restaurant, it's more comfortable to book early.

3) Room Highlights: Is the triple room with the terrace a good place to stay?

We stayed in a balcony room this time, and it was a triple room : my parents slept in a double bed, and I used the sofa bed.

Usable space in the room:

• Sufficient storage: includes wardrobes, drawers, safes, and refrigerators.
• Fully equipped: hairdryer, tissues, towels, tea bags, kettle

Honestly, it's fine for three people to share a room, and there's even a terrace where you can go out and enjoy the sea breeze. It's really a great deal for a family trip or for traveling with your parents.

4.1 What kind of restaurants offer free meals? Are they worth it?

There are actually quite a few "included" options on board: the main restaurant , several complimentary restaurants with light meals, and snacks (hot dogs, ice cream, fries, etc.) scattered throughout different activity areas that you can take with you.

The main restaurant (free) is , in my opinion, the most worthwhile place to try:

• The format is a la carte : look at the menu and choose for yourself.
• You can book a time slot using the app; otherwise, you can wait at the door.
• They offer similar high-quality plating and a wide selection: appetizers, main courses, and desserts are all available.

4.2 Buffet: If you want an easy, mindless meal, go to...

If you want a quick and easy meal without having to think about it, and you'd like your family to sit down and enjoy a leisurely meal, a buffet is the most convenient option. We also tried the Sailboat Buffet Restaurant (for breakfast and dinner).

4.3 Paid Restaurants: Those who want a slightly better or chiller dining experience can choose from these options.

There are also many paid restaurants on board (such as teppanyaki, hot pot, Japanese cuisine, etc.). This time we ate at Jamie Oliver (Italian cuisine):

• Sitting by the window facing the deck, the environment is so comfortable.
• The service was excellent, giving it a "small restaurant" feel; they kept introducing the dishes.
• For those wanting a sense of occasion or great photos, paying for a restaurant can be a significant plus.

5) Must-see performance: Is "Silk Road" worth it?

After dinner, we went to watch a show that many people recommended: "The Silk Road" .

• You can book a time slot using the app; walk-ins are also welcome.
• There are two tiers of seating; some VIP seats require an extra fee.
• The content isn't the "purely Chinese style" you might imagine; instead, it blends elements from multiple countries (China, Europe, India, Persia, etc.).
• The production is highly professional: the music, LED effects, and stage effects are all excellent.

In conclusion: If it's your first time on a cruise and you're looking for a "worth the ticket price" experience, this show should definitely be on your must-see list.

6) Okinawa shore excursion: One-day bus + Kokusai Street + Senaga Island

On the third day in Okinawa , the weather improved and the sun came out, finally allowing us to go up to the deck to soak up the sun and take photos. The best part of exploring Okinawa by ship is that you don't have to carry luggage. After a day of sightseeing , you can go back to the ship for dinner and a nap, which will make your parents feel very relaxed.

What should we do?

• The ship has a shuttle bus to Kokusai-dori.
• However, we wanted to maximize our time by visiting more spots, so we opted for a KKday chartered bus service (approximately 9 hours).

Okinawa Itinerary Reference

• Kokusai-dori : Shopping + Eating (We ate at a ramen shop; the broth was a rich, dark pork bone soup, very unique)
• Senaga Island : Great vacation vibe, take your time and relax.
• Outlet : Perfect for buying whatever you want (no baggage restrictions on cruise ships, so you can shop with peace of mind 😂)
• Sea salt ice cream + souvenir : Some shops offer sea salt/matcha powder as a fun treat.

A friendly reminder: Some popular restaurants in Okinawa require advance booking; you might not get a table if you don't show up on the spot. If you want to eat at famous restaurants, remember to make arrangements in advance.

7) Activities on Ishigaki Island: Public Market + Ishigaki Beef Sushi + Souvenirs

Next stop: Ishigaki Island . I didn't know much about Ishigaki Island, but as soon as I got off the boat, I felt that it had a stronger fishing village feel, a slower pace of life, and more small shops . It wasn't as "busy and touristy" as Okinawa.

Disembarkation Transportation

• The ferry company provides a shuttle bus that takes about 5 minutes to reach the city.

Must eat: Ishigaki beef sushi

When you go to Ishigaki Island, you absolutely must try Ishigaki beef ! We went to a highly recommended Ishigaki beef sushi restaurant:

• Immediate service upon request; queuing is the norm.
• Some brands will tell you: Best before date is 60 seconds (meaning you have to eat it quickly 😂).
• Some sets include sea grapes , which are somewhat characteristic of Ishigaki.

What souvenirs do you want to buy?

• Ishigaki Public Market : Delicatessen stalls, street market feel, you can eat while walking around.
• Yaeyama Noodles/Soba Meal Kit : Attractive packaging and easy to carry, a reliable choice for souvenirs.
• If you want to do a big shopping spree in one go: you can look for supermarkets/large stores (we both want to look for Donki and the like).

8) Is the Wi-Fi on the cruise ship worth it? (Real test of a three-person package)

If you want to travel while still working or shooting and posting videos every day, Wi-Fi is one of the most practical investments.

• Early bird deals are better: Booking Wi-Fi/dining coupons via the app a few days before boarding is usually cheaper.
• Three-person package: We bought a three-person Wi-Fi package.
• Real-world testing experience: The camera maintained a stable connection throughout the entire ship, allowing for smooth movement around, and there were no issues with daily filming and posting.
